[She didn't. She always missed him, always wished he could be there with her. When Steve showed her the silly tourist traps in New York, or Natasha dragged her out of bed to go find some suitable clothes for a girl her age in the city, she always wished Pietro was there, too.]

That would make me a terrible sister.

[pietro fidgets uncomfortably where he lies, maybe even pouting a bit. so it's guilt, then? guilt that she was a terrible sister because he wasn't there for her.]

What kind of brother would I be if I felt bad just because you made friends and had fun?

[he turns his head, to look at her.]

How do I explain... It is like a dish of lasagna, right? But you can only see the cheese on top, nothing else. You are missing out on the pasta and the meat and the sauce. What sauce is it and is it spicy? Is the pasta raw? [...this metaphor...] I only see the cheese, and it looks great. But I do not know if everything else is alright.

[Wanda squints up at the ceiling, trying to follow her brother's metaphor. She... gets it, actually, but.]

Are you hungry? Do I need to feed you lasagna?

[his expression drops to one of his more default Annoyed(TM) looks. she is obviously deflecting—and pietro feels conflicted, because...]

Yes, okay, lasagna would be great.

But that is not the point right now. Wanda, you are too smart to act dumb.

[She turns her head to look at him.]

Whatever I had after I lost you, I ended up losing, too.

[oh no, that does not bode well. pietro scoots closer to wanda and finds her hand, clasping it tightly with his own.]

What I want is to help you carry whatever you are carrying on your own.

[he brings her hand up to his face, kisses her knuckles.]

But if it is too selfish of an ask, I understand if you do not want to say more. [that's the other thing...] Your losses after I was gone may not be mine, but if you lose something, I want to lose it, too. I will not let you be alone through this now that I am here, Wanda.

[He can't be so sweet and not expect her to break. Wanda turns onto her side, keeping her hand in his, and laces their fingers together. Gone are the assortment of rings, the black nail polish. Another life.

She watches his face for a few quiet moments.]

Do you remember Vision?

Big, red android man? Yes, I remember him.

[listen, if he knew better, he wouldn't just throwing adjectives at vision and see what sticks.]

What about him?

[Well, Pietro asked for this. So.]

We fell in love.

[Maybe he'll think she's joking. She's not.]

[Oh, she knew he'd have to digest that. Most people went on the same existential journey when they figured it out. Steve and Nat chose to turn a blind eye to it, and really, Wanda was fine with that.

It's different when it's her brother. She's really tired of crying on him, and hopes she'll be able to keep it together as she nods.]

Not joke.

[Her accent comes back strong when she mimics him.]

[alright. alright. at that answer, pietro sits up and keeps her hand held, his free hand on her face, stroking gently at her cheek.]

He is not here anymore...

[because if he were, wanda wouldn't be alone here, would she?]

What happened?

Thanos killed him. He was after the mind stone. I destroyed it. And Vision.

[And a bit of herself, with him.]

But he turned back time to take it anyway.

[She did that horrible thing, and for nothing. Vis died confused and frightened, and Wanda knows this because she saw it happen. She can't look at Pietro, not wanting to see the look on his face, and so she squeezes her eyes shut.]

Who is Thanos? Is that ugly purple alien man people talk about?

[pietro and his words, he should be a poet. a poetro, if you will—

still, this does not sit right with him, whoever thanos ends up being. there are gaps to this story, but with how pained his sister looks, he doesn't want to ask for details that take away from vision. he brings her up to his arms, so he can envelop her in his arms.]

—I'm so sorry, Wanda. Why does the world just take and take from us? [from his little sister; the one he would do anything to protect?] I'm sorry.

[She nods.] We tried to stop him from killing half the universe. We failed.

[Death was a relief, then, but she knows better than to tell her brother that. Vision had saved her when Sokovia fell, but there wasn't anyone there for her when she came back after the snap. Clint had his family. Natasha was dead. Steve disappeared. Sam had the shield. There wasn't a place for her anymore.]

But... it doesn't just take. I have you back.

[She's able to hug him tightly and breathe him in and bury her face against him.]

And I knew this would just make you sad.

I am not — sad.

[okay, maybe just a little, because it really is his sister being sad and lonely all this time, regardless of whether there was someone there for her or not.

sighing, he presses his head against her, and keeps her in his embrace a moment.]

You always listen to my stories of finding pretty girls, and even though you complained so much, you listened because you knew it was important to me. I want to hear stories of this man you loved. Good stories. [has wanda shared good stories, about vision?] Happy stories.

[redchaos]

[She knows learning that she had this love, and lost it, makes him sad for her. It's that simple. Wanda would melt into him if she could, and settles for just burrowing in against him.]

All the happy ones seem a little sad, now.

[he rubs at her back]

When you are ready, okay?

[pietro doesn't need the happy stories now. it must be hard for wanda to talk about it at all.

he remembers how long it took for either of them to even start talking about their parents in any way that didn't revolve the bombings and hatred towards stark, whatever or whoever that was, ignorant as they were as children at the time.]

He took care of you. I owe him a big debt, in any case.

[And she couldn't even talk about him without getting upset. Losing Pietro was a wound that never healed, never could heal, so it's even more strange to have him back and have that particular hurt soothed, in its own way.]

I wonder who I owe a debt to, for bringing you back to me.

[he's thoughtful for a moment.]

I cannot remember much after everything went dark in Sokovia. I remember seeing Clint's face, but...

I heard your voice, Wanda. I felt like you were calling me. Then it was dark no more.

[Magic, maybe. Hers? She really doesn't know the limits of what she can and cannot do. Maybe it doesn't matter when it comes to this, because all that matters is that her brother is back in her arms.

She shifts to hug him tightly and press a quick kiss to his cheek.]

I haven't clung to you this much since we were little.

[When it hit her that their parents were gone and they were alone in the world--except for one another.]

[he snorts at that piece of commentary, and has them both flopping back down on the bed.]

I know. Makes me feel very cool.

[maybe it should be a full-time role of his, an actual body pillow?]

Oh, I didn't tell you about the mountain lion. The big fun.

[Wanda would much more prefer to talk about the mountain lion over her dead love. She makes herself comfortable against his shoulder, unsure if he's pulling her leg or not about there being a real mountain lion.]
